Bodegas Bhilar Phinca Hapa Blanco is a extraordinary, single-vineyard skin-contact orange wine from the high-altitude village of Elvillar in Rioja Alavesa.
Crafted by visionary winemaker David Sampedro, this low-intervention blend of Viura, Garnacha Blanca, and Malvasía undergoes two months of skin maceration in concrete tanks followed by barrel aging. The result is a deeply complex, textured white wine that challenges conventional Rioja and showcases pure, biodynamic terroir.
Tasting Notes & Style
Fermented with native yeasts and aged in neutral French oak, this amber-hued wine delivers a savoury, aromatic, and structured profile:
- The Nose: Intriguing and complex, offering aromas of dried orange peel, bruised yellow apple, toasted hazelnuts, wild herbs, and subtle floral honeycomb.
- The Palate: Richly textured and full-bodied. A delicate wave of skin-contact tannin gives the wine structure, balanced by a core of dried stone fruit, spice, and electric minerality.
- The Finish: Long, savory, and bone-dry, with a lingering note of citrus oil, tea leaf, and chalky earthiness.
Best For & Gifting Occasions
- Ideal Alternative to: Premium Orange Wines, barrel-aged White Rioja, or skin-contact Ramato Pinot Grigio.
- Perfect Gift For: Natural and biodynamic wine enthusiasts, adventurous collectors, or hostesses serving rich Mediterranean cuisine.
- Dietary & Sustainability: Biodynamic, Certified Organic, Low Intervention, Native Yeast Fermentation, Unfiltered, and Vegan-friendly.
Food Pairing Guide
The tannic grip and savoury depth of Phinca Hapa make it a dream pairing for rich, complex, and umami-heavy dishes:
- Rich Seafood & Poultry: Roast chicken with garlic and herbs, pan-seared pork chops, grilled octopus, or lobster in butter.
- Spiced Dishes: Moroccan tagines, aromatic curry, roasted squash with sage, or mushroom risotto.
- Cheese & Charcuterie: Aged Manchego, washed-rind cheeses, jamón ibérico, or duck pate.
